MidJourney Omni-Reference Feature Launched– What It Can Do

MidJourney has launched a major update called “Omni Reference”, replacing the older character reference system. This new feature allows users to drag and drop any image—a person, object, pet, or even a mood board—into a dedicated Omni Reference section to guide image generation. You can also control how strongly the reference affects the final image using the Omni Weight slider.

Here, the original image is edited with the Omni-Reference Feature.

How To Use It:

  1. Enable Version 7 in your settings.
  2. Drag and drop an image into the Omni Reference section on the right-hand side of the interface.
  3. Adjust the Omni Weight slider (omniate) — default is 100, but this can go up to 600+ for stronger influence.

Key Capabilities:

  • Character consistency: Much better likeness for faces, especially with close-up photos.
  • Outfit matching: Increase Omni Weight (~400) for more accurate clothing replication.
  • Object & pet references: Works well, though simple objects respond better at default weight (100).
  • Unusual designs: Still struggles with odd objects like 10-wheeled cars unless hinted in prompt.
  • Stylization support: Works with mood boards, style references, and MidJourney aesthetics.
  • Non-human characters: Pet likeness improves with higher Omni Weight.

It’s a big step forward for creators seeking consistent characters, style blending, and personalized AI-generated art. Great for storytellers, illustrators, and product mockup designers.
