Shopify Editions: A Wealth of Updates
Shopify is known for its periodic updates, which they call Shopify Editions. These updates are released two or three times a year, bringing a plethora of new features and improvements. This time, they’ve outdone themselves with 150 different updates, although not everything is released immediately.
Let’s dive into some of the most exciting new features that have been added, and I’ll let you know which ones are available now and which are coming soon. Some features are exclusive to Shopify Plus customers, but there are still plenty of goodies for everyone.
1. Split Shipping and Checkout
Split shipping and checkout is a feature that you might have seen on Amazon. This allows customers to see when an order will be split into multiple shipments, providing more clarity and choice at checkout. They can choose options like the lowest price overall, the fastest delivery, or a custom optimization based on their preferences.
Currently, split shipping and checkout is in beta, but it’s available for every Shopify account. You can click on “Get Notified” in your Shopify dashboard to stay updated on its launch.
2. Sidekick
Sidekick is an AI-powered personal assistant within Shopify. Unlike Shopify Magic, which helps write product descriptions, Sidekick can perform tasks for you. For example, you can ask it to create a discount for new customers in June, and it will handle the task. Thousands of stores are already using Sidekick, and if it’s not available for your store, you can request early access.
3. New Style Settings for Themes
Shopify has introduced new style settings for themes, allowing for more flexible layouts. This update provides options to customize mobile layouts and make specific changes that were previously limited. Theme developers need to implement these features, so expect to see these changes in the coming months.
4. Managed Markets
If you’re selling globally, Managed Markets will be your new favorite feature. This update unifies various settings related to international selling, making it easier to manage your markets. You can set different prices, hide products in specific regions, and include duties at checkout, among other features.
5. Product Taxonomy
Shopify has revamped product categorization with over 10,000 categories and 2,000 attributes. This new system improves product discovery, search functionality, and filters, both on your store and other marketplaces like TikTok and Google. Note that this feature doesn’t work retroactively, so you’ll need to update your existing products.
6. Store Credit
Shopify now allows you to issue store credit directly in the app. Customers can view balances and transaction history and spend their credit at checkout. This feature is currently available only for US-based businesses using Shopify Payments.
7. Combined Listings
Exclusive to Shopify Plus customers, combined listings allow you to group similar products into a single product page. For example, different colors of the same shirt can be displayed together with rich media galleries and unique URLs for each variant.
8. Zero Risk Ad Campaigns
Another exclusive for Shopify Plus customers, zero risk ad campaigns let you run ads on Meta and Google, paying only when a customer converts. These ads run through the shop app ad account, making it a highly cost-effective marketing tool.
Conclusion
Shopify Editions Summer 2024 brings a wealth of new features designed to enhance your store’s functionality and user experience. From AI-powered assistants to improved international selling tools, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to explore these updates in your Shopify dashboard and take advantage of the new capabilities to boost your store’s performance.
